Jepkosgei and Kandie claim victory in Barcelona Marathon
Kenyan runners Kibiwott Kandie and Joyciline Jepkosgei showcased their dominance at the Edreams Mitja Zurich Marato Barcelona, securing a remarkable double victory in the World Athletics Gold Label road race.
In a display of unparalleled skill and determination, Jepkosgei shattered the women’s course record, clocking an impressive time of 1:04:29. Her relentless pace left Ethiopia’s Senberi Teferi trailing, as Jepkosgei clinched the title with a commanding performance, further solidifying her position among the world’s elite runners.
Meanwhile, Kandie demonstrated his mastery of the distance, triumphing in the men’s event with a stellar time of 59:22. Despite a strategic move by compatriot Roncer Konga, Kandie remained composed, eventually overtaking Konga and clinching victory in a dramatic finish.
Swedish debutant Andreas Almgren also made waves, setting a national record and securing the title of the second-fastest European of all time.
