Mary Moraa Sprints to Victory and secures gold in 400m

Kenya’s track sensation Mary Moraa once again demonstrated her athletic prowess by clinching gold in the women’s 400m race at the ongoing All African Games 2023 in Ghana.

Moraa, who previously claimed the 800m gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, showcased her speed and skill as she crossed the finish line in an impressive time of 50.57 seconds.

In a fiercely contested race, Esther Olo of Nigeria trailed behind Moraa, finishing second with a time of 51.56 seconds, while Burundi’s Sita Sibiri secured the bronze with a time of 51.74 seconds.

Moraa’s victory marks Kenya’s second gold medal at the Games, following Emily Wamusyi Ngii’s triumph in the 20KM racewalking event earlier in the day.

Wamusyi, a gold medalist at the 2019 African Games in Rabat, Morocco, successfully defended her title by clocking a time of 1:37:34, thus earning Kenya its first gold medal in Ghana.

Despite a strong effort, Silvia Kemboi, another Kenyan participant in the race, finished fourth with a time of 1:41:20.

As the day progressed, anticipation mounted for the evening’s upcoming races, including the women’s 100m hurdles final, where Kenyan sprinter Rukia Nusra prepared to take on formidable opponents from Nigeria, Burundi, and Mozambique.

Additionally, the women’s 3000m steeplechase featured a strong Kenyan contingent led by Beatrice Chepkoech, Caren Chebet, and Purity Kirui, aiming to challenge for victory against competitors from Uganda and Ethiopia.

In the women’s 4x100m relay final, the Kenyan team geared up to face off against tough opponents from Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and other African nations.
