Faith Kipyegon Shatters 1500m World Record in Paris!

The Meeting de Paris, part of the Wanda Diamond League, witnessed a night of history on Sunday. Two world records were shattered, showcasing the immense talent and fierce competition in athletics.

Mahuchikh Soars Over Long-Standing High Jump Record

The evening’s excitement began with Ukrainian high jumper Yaroslava Mahuchikh. In a thrilling display, she cleared a staggering 2.10m, surpassing the legendary record set by Stefka Kostadinova at the 1987 World Championships. This record had stood for an incredible 37 years!

The competition was tight, with Mahuchikh facing off against world indoor champion Nicola Olyslagers. Both cleared 2.01m on their second attempts, but Olyslagers faltered at 2.03m. Mahuchikh, however, soared over the bar, setting a new Ukrainian record. Her reign didn’t stop there. Mahuchikh cleared 2.07m with ease before capping off the night with a historic 2.10m jump on her first attempt.

Kipyegon Redefines Limits in Record-Breaking 1500m Run

Just under an hour later, Faith Kipyegon took center stage. Returning to Paris, where she set the 5000m world record in 2023, Kipyegon had another mission: push the boundaries of the 1500m.

The race was a blistering display of athletic prowess. Kipyegon covered the first 800m in an astonishing 2:04, with Australian Jess Hull keeping pace just behind. As the pacemakers dropped out, Kipyegon maintained her relentless speed, clocking a remarkable 60.8 seconds for the third lap.

With the final lap bell, Kipyegon shifted gears, widening the gap and leaving Hull in her wake. Her powerful strides propelled her across the finish line in a world-record time of 3:49.04, shaving 0.07 seconds off her own record set in Florence last year.

Depth and Excellence on Display

Hull didn’t go unnoticed. Her second-place finish with a time of 3:50.83 smashed her own Oceanian record and secured her a spot as the fifth-fastest runner in 1500m history. Britain’s Laura Muir also etched her name in the record books with a national record-breaking time of 3:53.79.

Remarkably, 12 women finished the race under four minutes, highlighting the incredible depth and quality of competition witnessed that night in Paris.

A Night of Inspiration

Kipyegon’s performance was a testament to her unwavering dedication and exceptional talent. Her relentless pursuit of excellence continues to inspire athletes across the globe. As she sets her sights on defending her Olympic title, the world eagerly awaits the next heights this extraordinary athlete will reach.
